Party Roles in High Five: tanks, healers and support

A Lineage 2 party holds up to nine members. There is no universal composition: assisted solo farming, polearms, raids, mage groups and PvP need different tools. Start by covering what stops the group from progressing, then add damage.

Party
Up to nine members
Protection
Tank, healing and resistances
Support
Buffs, songs, dances and MP management
Syndicate Allies
Ten in the roster; up to eight active

What each function contributes

  • Tanks: Phoenix Knight, Hell Knight, Eva's Templar and Shillien Templar provide protection and aggression management. Their role includes positioning and control, not merely taking damage.
  • Healing: Cardinal, Eva's Saint and Shillien Saint provide recovery with different toolkits. Eva's Saint and Shillien Saint have Recharge for eligible allies' MP; Cardinal specializes in healing.
  • Buffs: Hierophant and Doomcryer support a group through different tools; Dominator is clan-oriented. Do not assume a clan buff affects any nearby character.
  • Songs and dances: Sword Muse and Spectral Dancer complement other buffs. Maintain the ones the composition needs instead of spending MP on every option without checking its utility.
  • Damage and utility: physical attackers, archers, mages, summoners and Dwarves are not interchangeable. Fortune Seeker can increase farming value through Spoil/Sweep, while Maestro contributes crafting and servitors.

Three compositions that explain priorities

  • Mage party: healer, Recharge, magic buffs, suitable songs/dances and magic attackers. If everyone runs out of MP after a few kills, another mage does not solve the problem.
  • Physical raid party: protection, healer, physical buffs, songs/dances and sustained damage. Match weapons and resistances to the boss and check its actual entry rules before gathering nine characters.
  • Polearm party: an attacker with polearm mastery, healing and compatible buffs; add tank/control when the zone requires it. Pull only what the group can survive, not the maximum you can attract.
  • These are starting points, not mandatory nine-slot templates. Example: if the party kills quickly but loses members on every pull, replacing an attacker with healing or control may improve the final result.

Organization during combat

  • Agree on who initiates, which target to assist and when to retreat. Area attacks and debuffs can change combat priorities.
  • Keep the healer and support characters within useful range, with line of sight and room to react. Moving away can cut off heals, buffs and rewards.
  • Manage MP and buff duration before a long pull. Save important defenses for expected danger and watch boss mechanics, not only its HP bar.
  • Set loot distribution when creating the party and agree on what to do with valuable jewelry or materials. Combat composition and loot distribution are separate decisions.

How Syndicate's Allies fit in

Allies are full-class characters under your control. You can keep ten in the roster but only eight active, so you and eight Allies fit a nine-member party. A servitor or Pet is not an additional party character.

Gambits organize their decisions through conditions, targets and actions. Example: a priority heal for a low-HP member should be evaluated before the healer's offensive actions. Gambits do not remove skill costs, range or restrictions.

A complete composition does not guarantee entry to every instance. Each raid or instance guide explains the group sizes, levels and Ally exceptions for that content.

Frequently asked questions

How many characters fit in one party?

Up to nine. In Syndicate you can combine your character with up to eight active Allies; a ten-member roster does not let you deploy all ten at once.

Can a buffer replace a healer?

Not automatically. Some support classes have heals, but their toolkit and efficiency differ from a specialized healer. Check the incoming damage and the healing the group can actually sustain.

Do I need a nine-member party for every instance?

No. Each instance has its own limits and requirements. Check its guide: filling all nine slots may be unnecessary or exceed the entry maximum.
